We got a referral from a pediatrician in the Ward and we made an appointment for a month later at a children's ophthamologist . At the appointment they examined her eyes including dilating them which Erin hated. The difference I noticed at this appointment was that when Erin said she couldn't see the letters on the line they encouraged her to look really hard and make a good guess. Sometimes she would get it right and sometimes she wouldn't. At the end of the appointment the Dr. seemed very confused. He said that he couldn't confirm what the school and what Target said. Her vision wasn't perfect, but it wasn't as bad as the school and Target said. He didn't think we should do anything. I asked about patching just because Erin is getting to the age where studies show that the effectiveness for patching goes way down. He basically said I could try if I wanted and then we'd see her back in three months. I left the appointment frustrated. I didn't like how they told her to guess because I wasn't sure if she could actually see the letter or if she was just getting a "lucky guess".
After talking to my BIL I decided to start patching and get a second opinion. The new Dr. is very hard to get in to and since it was a second opinion we couldn't get an appointment for three months. We were really good about patching (three hours a day) until Christmas break and didn't do so well for the last couple of months. Our appointment with the next Dr. was last week. They did all of the same tests and even told Erin that she got credit for guessing (which she later told me she didn't understand because she doesn't get credit for guessing at school). If the original tests were acurate Erin's eyesight has improved from 20/40 to 20/30. They recommended they we continue to patch (dropping from 3 hours a day to 2 hours) for 2-3 months and also prescibed glasses with a very minor prescription in the left eye. So we'll go back in a couple months and reevaluate.
On Friday we went shopping at Target for glasses. Erin was pretty excited! The girl loves to shop and it really doesn't matter what we're buying. She tried on almost every pair. Below you'll see some of the ones she tried on. The question is: Can you guess what pair she chose? The first person to guess will get a surprise in the mail from us!
Now to the crying. Erin hates wearing a patch. Most of the time she cries when she has to put one on. I don't like listening to her whine so on school days I send her to school with the patch on and tell her that she can take it off after recess.
So now on to the fun which pair did she choose?
A

B
C
D
E

Jayla thinks she picked B :)
I am going with C. Although she looks cute in all of them. Poor girl. I hope they figure something out for the sake of both of you.
I know I've heard it before but what a bizarre story! Seriously. It's like you live in incompetent zone. I'm sorry it's been such a frustrating road for you. Both Sam and Henry's care has been nothing but professional. Thinking back, I do think they told Sam to answer what he thought it was. I think it helps them determine if they are being shy, lazy or really guessing. I hope Erin's eye improves. Sammy didn't like patching at all either, although getting fun patches helped, but he was only in pre-school and kids there aren't nearly as cruel.
My vote is B. Although she looks cute in all of them. I think her red shirt is throwing me off the scent, though. It's just such a cute picture!
Sometimes I think being a mom is so hard. I hate to see children have something difficult, I think she should get a great big basket from the Easter Bunny! She is so darling in the pictures. I'm going with E.
I am guessing D...they are just so hip and cool! Clark is guessing A because it is the only option that hasn't been picked yet and he wants the treat!
She looks cute in all of them.
Definately D, sorry it took me so long. I can't believe how grown up she is!
I feel like I'm back in the testing center at BYU with so many choices to choose from-go with my first answer....B. She's so cute in all of them.
Well my guess is A, because nobody else has guessed it and I want to get something from the Johnsons. But really I bet it was E (look at that smile).
Hi Becky! I think she picked D....
